Jackson County, Mississippi

Jackson County, established in 1812, was named for General Andrew Jackson, who defeated the British at the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. The following are pertinent statistics about Jackson County taken from the U.S. Census Bureau:

  • Land Area: 727 square miles
  • Population (July 2008 estimate): 130,694
  • Housing Units (July 2008 estimate): 55,784
