Press Releases
Additional Press Releases are available from the Press Releases page on the Gulf Coast Recovery Web site and from the FEMA News Archives.
The first three photographs above were taken at the Flood Risk Open House in Bay St. Louis on December 11, 2007, where the Preliminary versions of the Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map and Flood Insurance Study report for Hancock County, Mississippi and Incorporated Areas were displayed and discussed with community officials and residents. The event kicked off community adoption of flood maps to meet requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program. Flood Risk Open Houses also were held in Harrison County and Jackson County on December 11 and 12, 2007, respectively. The fourth photograph was taken during a meeting for the Vietnamese community in Biloxi. Translators were present to help local Vietnamese citizens understand the new maps. Additional photographs of FEMA and State staff meeting with and assisting community officials and residents can be found in the FEMA Photo Library. Resources We have created a suite of resources, including informative videos (produced in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese) to help explain the Mississippi Coastal Mapping Project and the effects that the new flood maps will have on residents; developers; community officials; and real estate, lending, and insurance industry professionals.
